2011 Kick Off

This year’s FIRST Team HYPER Robotics Kick-Off Event was a great success. Over 100 people attended the viewing of Manchester’s live broadcast, including students, mentors, alumni, support staff, family, friends, and sponsors. Familiar faces and new faces alike, the crowd enjoyed a continental breakfast and watched the broadcast on projector screens set up on the practice field. Also joining in were other alumni and former-mentors that were out of state and even out of the country, via Skype and phones. Not only was the team watching the broadcast live, but Team HYPER Alumni were also at Manchester, representing the FIRST Team 69 on national television!

Rookie members, having attended meetings throughout the fall, were officially introduced to FIRST by its founders Dean Kamen and Woody Flowers. These new members watched as corporate executives and celebrities joined together to build up to this year’s game, including special guest William James Adams, Jr. (will.i.am) from The Black Eyed Peas. These speakers presented the core values of FIRST and FIRST’s goals and ambitions to the present audience and those watching on TV, providing important information to the first year members directly from FIRST and its sponsors.

After this years game was revealed, student members were encouraged to download and read the rules, and begin thinking about possible designs for the brainstorming sessions that would follow in the upcoming week’s meetings.
